There's something about Hocking Hills that makes you slow down. The towering hemlocks, the moss-covered sandstone, the sound of water finding its way over rock that's been there for thousands of years — it has a way of putting everything into perspective. So when Sharyn and Cameron told us they wanted to say their vows next to a waterfall, surrounded by just 30 of their closest family members, we knew we were in for something special.
We were not prepared for just how special.
A Morning of Quiet Anticipation
The day started soft. Mist was still clinging to the tree line as Sharyn's family gathered to help her get ready, laughter drifting through the cabin windows between the sounds of hairspray and last-minute button fixes. There's a different kind of energy at a small wedding — less chaos, more presence. Everyone in that room knew exactly why they were there, and it showed in every glance, every hug, every "you look beautiful" whispered before the mirror.
Cameron, meanwhile, was doing his best to stay composed a few cabins over, joking with his groomsmen but unable to hide the grin that kept sneaking across his face. You could tell — this was a man who knew exactly how lucky he was.
Vows by the Waterfall
Nothing could have prepared us for the moment Sharyn came around the bend in the trail and the waterfall came into view behind Cameron. The sound of rushing water nearly swallowed the gasps from the small crowd gathered on the rocks, but nothing could swallow the look on Cameron's face when he saw her.
With just 30 family members tucked among the moss and stone, the ceremony felt less like a performance and more like a promise witnessed by the people who mattered most. No microphones, no rows of unfamiliar faces — just the people who raised them, loved them, and would be there long after the cameras packed up. The waterfall provided a natural, ever-moving backdrop, its steady roar somehow adding to the stillness of the moment rather than taking away from it.
Sharyn and Cameron wrote their own vows, and if there was a dry eye among those 30 guests, we certainly didn't film it.
Small in Size, Massive in Feeling
There's a common misconception that a "big" wedding is a "beautiful" wedding — that scale and grandeur go hand in hand. Simple, not because it lacked beauty, but because it stripped everything down to what actually matters: two people, the family who shaped them, and a waterfall that had been waiting patiently for centuries to witness something like this.
